Nitrogen
molecule is inert and to break it into free atom (N2) that can react with other
atmospheric elements to form compounds such as Nitrites, Ammonia and Nitrates
require energy that is derived from the industrial processes, atmospheric
fixing (lightning, and natural fixing/biological processes. This entire process
is called Nitrogen Fixation, and therefore the three; cyanobacteria (biological
process), electrical discharges in the atmosphere (natural fixation), and
industrially synthesized fertilizer fix nitrogen into the ecosystem.

Conversely,
denitrification is the process by which the free nitrogen is removed from the
atmospheric nitrogen compounds such as nitrous oxide, nitric oxide, and nitrous
acid and passed to the ecosystem. Therefore, denitrification is the false
statement in this regard.
