You are going to create a poster telling me about the silk road. In the center of your ‘poster’ you will create a map of the silk road, including 10 major trading cities found on the exchange.
You will then divide the road into four different regions: Europe (this can include Byzantium), the Islamic Empire (this can include N. Africa), India, and China. For each geographic region, you will give an overview of the goods each location traded. One drawing must be included for each region.
Lastly, I want you to play the role of traveler along the Silk Road. Below is a link to several famous people who travelled the Road throughout the years. You are to pick a character from the list provided and, on a separate sheet of paper, in 250 words, give an account of what they experienced during their journey. I want you to write from the perspective of the character you choose (aka, put yourselves in their shoes and write as if you were them.) Include their POV (Where were they from? Where were they going? What were they hoping to accomplish? What is the purpose of writing all of this down?) Then describe their journey. (Where did they go? Did they see anything noteworthy along the way? How did they view the customs of the people they were visiting? Were they impressed? Disgusted?). Of course, this is not a comprehensive list of the travels along the Silk Road. Feel free to do additional research on your own, if you so desire.
