This assignment is an incremental piece of work that builds across the semester. It has three parts:
1. a set of reflective blog entries;
2. a statement of learning;
3. and your comments on the blog entries of other students.
1. Critically Reflective Blog Entries (50% of this assignment’s grade)
This task involves using the Blog tool on the subject LearnJCU site to demonstrate your understanding of the material from this subject and how you personally respond to that material. You need to choose 3 topics drawn from weeks 1-13 of the subject. You must write a critically reflective blog entry for each of these three topics, posting these entries on LearnJCU where you will be able to be read by fellow students and staff. The topic for your blog entries must be critical reflections on your experience of some aspect of the subject (a classroom experience, a reading, a reading, a workshop session, a lecture, etc.).Each entry should be 300-500 words and must be referenced correctly where appropriate. The site for blogs will be open from 21st September and will close on 2nd November at midnight. You are required to submit your blogs during this time only.
The entries should reflect your understanding of how *self* impacts on your work as a social worker when responding to issues relating to mental health/ mental illness. This requires demonstrating your skill in the critically reflective genre of writing and should demonstrate an ability to integrate your personal experience with the material covered in the subject.
2. Statement of learning (50% of the assignment grade)
You need to write an overall statement of learning that reflects on your experience of the entire subject, attempting to capture a clear sense of what you have learned from the subject and the process by which this has occurred. The statement should reflect your understanding of the features of social work in the area of mental health and mental illness, including the use of self, the critically reflective genre of writing and demonstrate an ability to integrate your personal experience (which includes those experiences you may be aware of) with the material covered in the subject. The statement should be 1500 words. It should be submitted through the SafeAssign folder along with your blogs and details of the students whose blogs you have commented on. The statement must be referenced correctly.
3. Comments on Blogs (hurdle requirement)
You will have access to the Blog entries of all the other students completing this task. During the latter part of the semester you need to read the entries of some other students and leave constructive comments using the comment tool provided on the blog site. You must make a total of 3 comments, one comment on a blog entry of 3 different students. You need to note the students’ whose work you have commented on and include the names of these blogs as an appendix in your statement of learning.
Of course, you are encouraged to read the blog entries of many students, and to leave as many reflective and constructive comments as you like. However, you must make a minimum of 3 recorded comments.
Note:
Please submit all your 3 blogs, details of the hurdle requirement and statement of learning as a single word document through SafeAssign before the due date.
