Social Institutions and Health Outcomes 

 The purpose of this writing assignment is to help you better understand how social institutions shape our ability to obtain and retain a health body and lifestyle. Family, law, education, economy, and religion are all major social institutions. Each one is external to us but has a significant bearing on how we live our daily lives. Each institution is fluid, not stagnant. Social institutions look different now than they may have in the past. They are all interrelated, too. For instance, our family is often the source of our religious belief, or lack thereof.. Additionally, our educational attainment is often tied with family expectations or economic ability to afford certain pursuits. 

Discuss how each of these factors has played into your specific health outcomes. How often do you get an acute illness like a viral infection, common cold, or flu? Does the type of job or where you live influence the frequency and duration of a health problem? Do you have any chronic illnesses? If so. do you have trouble managing them in terms of paying for medication? flow has this illness been a drawback for you? Feel free to talk about any other family or friends who have experienced either positive or negative health outcomes as a consequence of their membership in social institutions.
