Instructions for Discussion Post
That's right! Your classmates are resources for your success! You will be working together (remotely) during this semester, and you are encouraged to form (remote) study groups.
Get to know each other by contributing to this discussion. You will provide a little general information about yourself and then will post 3 statements- 2 truths and a lie. (You'll be able to see your instructors example post before you post) by Wednesday, 11:59 pm.
After you post, you will then comment on two posts from your classmates by Monday, 11:59 pm. Try to guess their lie!
You are also encouraged to respond to comments on your own post- especially to tell your classmates if they guessed correctly!
To begin your post please include all or some of the following information (include whatever you are comfortable doing so for 1-4, but definitely include part 5- the 2 truths and a lie):
- What you preferred to be called (if it's different that your name on Canvas)
- Your reason for taking this course
- Something you hope for this course (other than getting an A)
- Something that you are concerned about for this course
- And finally, 3 statements: 2 truths and 1 lie
Here's an example post from your instructor:
What you preferred to be called: Dr. Fox-Moon
Your reason for taking this course: I love microbiology. It's fun playing with the bacteria and microscopic stuff.
Something you hope for this course (other than getting an A): My hope is to inspire others to enjoy microbiology. Microbiology is relevant so it would be awesome if students could applied the material from this course to their everyday lives.
Something that you are concerned about for this course: Since the course is online, my concern is that students will not be as engaged as they would be in a face-to-face class. I am always positive that students can take away a lot from the live sessions and the materials provided in the course.
3 statements: 2 truths and 1 lie: Here are my two truths and one lie.
- I have seen "Phantom of the Opera" in London.
- I have been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
- I had front row seats for Paul McCartney, a member of the Beatles.
