Singing Through the Stages of Relational Development
Our favorite songs often lead us through a storyline of romance, true love, heartbreak and loss. It is actually quite easy to find Knapp's stages of relationship development play out through the lyrics of top billboard hits. For example, consider these three hits:
Jason Derulo's "Marry Me" finds a young man dreaming of finally reaching the "bonding stage" of his relationship.
The Chicks' "Goodbye Earl" is a chilling representation of the ultimate "termination" of a relationship gone wrong.
And Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" is a catchy tune that explores all of the feelings that come along the "intensifying stage" of romantic relationships.
As you may have guessed, your challenge this week is to find your own song or video that represents one of Knapp's stages of relational development. Fill out the attached worksheet to complete the assignment.
