1) When it comes to Crazy Rich Asians and a Private Experience, on the surface, these two stories
are very different. Do some thinking and talk about two ways these stories are similar.
2) Crazy Rich Asians and Apples from the Desert share themes of love, tradition and marriage.
More importantly, both stories touch on how tradition, love and marriage mean different things
to different generations. In both stories, how do the different generations disagree when it
comes to love, marriage, and tradition? Explain.
3) Crazy Rich Asians is a great film about the complications of love and family. It really mirrors a lot
of the themes in the short stories we have worked with, but in looking at the film on its own,
why do you think Nick’s mom inevitably accepts Rachel into her family, and what symbol does
the mother use to show Rachel she is accepted?
4) This film was really about tradition in many ways. After watching the film, what do you think is
more important, love or tradition?
