Write a 650 to 850-word essay responding to the following prompt.
On marginal pages 57-58 of Meditation Four, Descartes discusses freedom. He explains that the more inclined he is to a particular choice or decision the freer he is. Provide an explanation of his position. This view of freedom seems to go against our contemporary understanding of freedom. Explain how Descartes view of freedom may or may not go against our contemporary understanding of freedom. (To clarify this possible difference, consider whether you would feel most free to choose when you have a multitude of choices or only a few choices when making a decision. Put differently, make sure to explain what you think is the contemporary understanding of freedom.) Do you agree with Descartes? Why or why not? To respond to this assignment adequately you must use textual references. You should strive for at least 2 direct quotes (not paraphrases) from Descartes Meditations.
