You will develop a Business Growth Plan for an existing business to expand into Southern Maryland or for a new startup business that has not yet been created.
An existing business can be a corporation, non-profit, or small business. If you would like to create a plan for a new, non-existent business, you must first discuss with and receive permission from your instructor. With either option you choose, you will create a plan for growth of this business in Southern Maryland.
Use the outline below as a checklist for your Business Growth Plan. Your second submission for your Business Growth Plan should include the following main sections

- Detailed description of products or services.
- What are the categories of items that are offered? For example, if you are a grocery store, you would list products such as canned goods, frozen food, meats, home supplies, candy, etc.
- Customers. -
- Who are your customers for your products or services?
- Uniqueness and Market Niche.
- How are your products or services distinguished from other similar or competing products/services in the marketplace?
- Detailed description of products or services.
- Management and Governance
- Legal Structure of the Business.
- What is the legal structure of the business (proprietorship, partnership, franchise, or corporation)?
- Why did you choose this form of ownership?
- What are the advantages and disadvantages of the form you chose?
- Legal Structure of the Business.
- Operations:
- Personnel required.
- How many employees do you plan to hire initially?
- What are your personnel policies (breaks, food included, uniform Customers. -
- Who are your customers for your products or services?
- Personnel required.
- Management and Governance
- Salaried Personnel.
- What are the skills, education, training, and experience of your personnel?
- Management of the business.
- What are the duties that need to be performed? Prepare a Job Description for each.
- Salaried Personnel.
* Place in Appendix: Create an organizational chart displaying the structure of the business from top to bottom. Include the following management positions at a minimum:
- President/CEO (depending on your form of business organization)
- Marketing Director
- Human Resources Manager
- Purchasing manager
- Director of Finance/CFO
