Soft Skills
When hiring future workers, employers look for hard skills, which are those we learn such as mastery of software applications or accountancy procedures. However, businesses are desperate for job candidates equipped with soft skills; some recruiters value soft skills even more than hard skills. Recall that soft skills are interpersonal characteristics, strengths, or other psychological assets a person possesses. These skills are important because they help employees communicate effectively, appear professional, and develop business relationships. Studies have divided soft skills into four categories.
Soft Skill Categories:
- Thinking and problem solving
- Oral and written communication
- Personal qualities and work ethic
- Interpersonal and teamwork
Complete the assignment by completing the following steps:
- Identify your own soft skills, paying attention to those attributes you think a potential employer would value.
- Prepare a bulleted list of at least four items in each of the four categories: Thinking and problem solving, Oral and written communication, Personal qualities and work ethic, Interpersonal and teamwork.
- Use a bulleted list to show your skills in each of the four categories.
- Each skill should have a short (no more than a paragraph) example demonstrating why you think it is something you possess.
- Make sure you have four categories with at least four skills listed (a total of 20 items).
- Include the source of your information at the end of your assignment.
Here’s an example for the “Thinking and problem solving” category:
Thinking and Problem Solving
- Creativity: I was given a task to design a poster for an event. I came up with a unique design that was well received by the client.
- Analytical Skills: I was tasked with analyzing data from a survey and presenting the results to my team. I was able to identify key trends and insights that helped us make informed decisions.
The internet is full of good resources for this topic. Be sure to include the website you used to find your items at the end of your assignment.
