Weekly Written Assignments

Following the Project Overview document available in the Assignment section of the online classroom, each week students will write an essay ranging 400-600 words in length utilizing APA format and at least 2 scholarly references. The weekly essay topics are included in the Project Overview document. Weekly essays will be evaluated utilizing the Essay Rubric, also available in the Assignment section of the online classroom.

Colins (2005) proposed an eight-step process, widely used for health policy analysis. The course project will employ the Colins (2005) eight-step process or tool, accomplishing one step per each of the eight weeks of the course. Although the Colins process is designed with national policy analysis in mind, for the purposes of this course, the Colins tool will be applied at the state level. Each student will choose an issue within their own state and complete the eight-step process utilizing information about their own state. International students will complete the process utilizing an issue and information from the current country [or state, providence, etc.] of residence.

Citations

The School of Health Sciences requires use of APA style and format and each student is required to have a current copy of the APA Publication Manual. All written assignments are to be submitted in APA format style unless otherwise noted in the assignment directions.

Research health issues in your state and write a 5-paragraph essay describing the 3 issues that are of greatest concern or importance to you. (The state nursing organization or other professional nursing practice group would be good sources for legislative health initiatives.) Describe the relevance to healthcare practice and how healthcare providers or healthcare administrators might intervene to improve each of these issues. International students should discuss 3 issues in their country [or state, providence, etc.] of residence. Essays should range 400-600 words in length utilizing APA format and at least 2 scholarly references. Essays will be evaluated based on the Essay Rubric
