Assignment: Writing an Abstract

The abstract is a short summary of the research project. It is usually written last, but is the first thing that people read. Students and researchers typically read an abstract to decide whether the article will be useful to them.

Read the following article and write an abstract for it.

Remember that abstracts should be less than 250 words, (though some journals require them to be shorter) should be able to stand alone, should be written in past tense, and should provide a summary of the research article. Be sure to write the abstract using APA format/style.

Remember to include the following in your summary: Purpose of study; main hypothesis/variables; sample/method; main results; conclusion/implications/future research. Also, be sure to include keywords. Consult the rubric for details.

When summarizing method and results, remember that you must include citations for measures that were used in the method and p-values of the results.
