Context
Counselling clients with specific issues can be complex and challenging. This assessment gives you an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and skill in critically analysing a case. You will be able to reflect on contemporary issues and research to inform your professional practice. This will further help you reflect on your strengths and limitations in counselling clients.
Task
For this assessment, you need to choose ONE (1) case study out of the three (3) provided under the Assessment 3 Information section.
Please refer to the Task Instructions for details on how to complete this task.
Task Instructions
Choose ONE (1) case study out of the three (3) provided under the Assessment 3 information section to write about in a report. The structure of the report should consist of an introduction including an outline of the disorder related to the case study (anxiety, depression or binge eating) followed by identification of the issues.
In the body of your report, there needs to be an explanation of the ways these issues would be addressed in counselling. Consider the following elements while writing this section of the report:
· Explain how a counsellor might assess the issues stated in the selected case study and how the assessments would inform counselling.
· Under what circumstances would you refer a client with similar presenting issues for psychiatric help?
· What counselling methods have been shown to be effective with people who have problems similar to those in the chosen case study? Explain how these would be used in this case.
· How would a counsellor know if counselling was successful?
· What are the main issues to consider when counselling clients who may be feeling out of control?
· What social and psychological factors may be contributing to the client’s presentation?
The report should come to a conclusion which sums up your understanding of the factors that may have contributed to the presenting issues and the ways you would work with the chosen client, and include references.
