Module 4
4.2: (2 paragraphs only)
Introduction and Alignment
Prosocial, or helping behavior, is any social behavior that benefits others or society as a whole. Helping behaviors can take many forms, such as sharing, donating, and volunteering. It can also include obeying and complying. However, there are people in need that do not receive any help. The reason for this may not be as simple and straightforward. Understanding how and when people help each other allows for us to generate strategies to facilitate help. Prosocial behavior has many benefits for the provider as well as the receiver, such as greater psychological well-being, more satisfactory relationships, and better physical health.
Upon completion of this assignment, you should be able to:
- Discuss prosocial behavior.
Resources
- Helping and Prosocial Behavior - (Please read from Introduction to Conclusion).
- Chapters 7 & 8, A General Theory of Love.
Assignment Instructions
Your initial post should be two paragraphs (at least 12 sentences). Ensure that your initial post has a thesis statement, transitional phrases, and a conclusion.
Select one of the following prompts:
1. Consider the last opportunity you had to help someone in need. Did you provide help? Why or why not? If you did, what motivated you to identify that help was needed and how to provide that assistance? If you did not help, what factors from the resources affected your decision not to help? The next time you find yourself in need of help, identify how you can be most likely to receive that necessary help.
2. What is more important, perceived social support and help or received social support and help? Why?
3. What do you think the primary motive for helping someone is: egoism or altruism? Are there any professions that are truly altruistic, or somewhere egoistic motivations are always at play?

After reading the texts, think of an issue that the general public needs to be convinced of that holds value for us all, such as taking the COVID vaccine. For this assignment, you will continue to add to your Psychological Toolbox that you will complete in Week 5. You should not need any additional resources for this assignment; however, you may want to find sources for arguments for and against your selected issue. For additional resources, use APA Style formatting for in-text citations and creating a reference page.
Next, read Six Principles of Persuasion. For each principle of persuasion, identify—if any—the suggested strategy that best matches it. For example, for the persuasion principle of “authority,” which of the five suggested vaccine promotion strategies seems to be appealing to this strategy? Explain. If there is not a suggested strategy for a particular principle of persuasion, propose a strategy.
This assignment should be 2 pages (not including the title page and reference page). You will want to use the levels of headings to organize the six steps and the corresponding content areas.
4.4 ( 1 page):
Introduction and Alignment
People are often biased against members outside of their social group. These biases can include emotional bias (prejudice), cognitive bias (stereotyping), and behavioral bias (discrimination). Disenfranchised groups have had to fight for fair treatment from overt biases; however, covert and more subtle discrimination, prejudice, and stereotyping are still experienced. Covert and subtle biases occur automatically and without a lot of thoughtful consideration. In order to understand how these biases operate within our culture, we first need to understand the culture within.
Upon completion of this assignment, you should be able to:
- Describe old-fashioned, blatant biases from contemporary, subtle biases.
- Explain subtle, unexamined biases that are automatic, ambiguous, and ambivalent.

Personality is a relatively new field within psychology. Personality traits reflect people’s characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. A trait can be thought of as a relatively stable characteristic that causes individuals to behave in certain ways. The trait approach to personality is one of the major theoretical areas in the study of personality. The trait theory suggests that individual personalities are composed of these broad dispositions.
