Assessment Task
This exercise requires you to respond to an excerpt to a video recording in which you critically respond to an experience of grief and loss. Often there is a felt sense of vulnerability in response to these types of life changes. In this assessment you are asked to analyse the case in terms of the stages of grief, identifying the needs of the client in regards to healing from the grief experience, and offering appropriate strategies for support.
Please refer to the Task Instructions for details on how to complete this task.
Context
•
People experience a variety of losses over the life span and respond to these losses in various ways. Sometimes people grieve in advance of a death or loss, sometimes they grieve through the process of change and sometimes people dissociate from the grief or push it aside and it is not processed until long after the event. In complicated grief elements of other life difficulties can complicate the process. Each person’s response to grief is unique. In grief and loss counselling, the therapist enters the space of the grieving person and holds the space for exploration.
