Assessment Task
Produce a 2500 word essay in which you will critically evaluate a range of practices for dealing with grief and loss in a spiritual context.
Context
Mindfulness and spiritual growth during grief and loss can be powerful tools for healing. It is a time of change and vulnerability but also an opportunity to change and develop resilience. Spiritual practice can be a powerful tool for those on the path to death and those who care for them.

Task Instructions
To complete this assessment task you must consider the following questions/elements:

Identify spiritual practices that may be utilised in the process of healing from grief and loss and critically evaluate it.
•
Familiarise yourself with the materials and draw specifically from the materials and ideas covered in Modules 4-7.
Essay structure
Here’s a guideline on how you could structure your essay:

Introduction and context (500 words)

Provide an overview of spiritual practice and its relationship to personal growth
•
Body (1500 words)
Address the following questions:

What is spiritual practice in psychotherapy and why is it particularly applicable to the process of dealing with grief and loss?

Apply a spiritual analysis to at least two stages in the grief process critically evaluating the possible benefits or pitfalls.

Conclusion (500 words)

Conclude your essay by bringing together the critical evaluation that you have outlined in the body of the essay. Link your conclucion to your introduction and include a statement about your own capacity to incorporate spiritual analysis into a counselling session
