"The I in Internet” (from Inquiry to Academic Writing)
Jia Tolentino lays out a long list of what she sees as problems in social media. Based on your own experience, to what extent do you agree or disagree with Tolentino’s claims? Explain your ideas with specific examples. Remember this isn’t storytelling time. You need a clear thesis statement and support it with claims. Your essay should follow the correct essay structure (introduction, body, conclusion) and a works cited page.
While this is a response essay, and it is your point of view, remember the essay tone and language should be for an audience of your academic peers.
- No slang, colloquialisms, short-hand/ texting language
- No second person. You are not speaking to one person. Saying “You”, or writing in an assumed second person is the equivalent of pointing the finger at your reader.
Logistics
- 750-850 words (not including the header or works cited)
- MLA Formatting
- Title Page
- 12 pt. New Times Roman
- 1-inch margins on all sides
- Left justification
- Double-spaced
- Name and date on the upper left of the page, and last name and page number on each page in the upper right corner
- Microsoft Word or PDF – this is required to be compatible with Blackboard and Safe Assign
- Essays submitted in any other format will receive an automatic F.
- Citations within the essay and at a works cited page.
- You must cite when quoting AND when paraphrasing.
- NO OUTSIDE RESOURCES
- 1 - 2 quotes from the author
- These should be separate quotes regarding different ideas.
- One quote of 2 sentences does not count and should not be included.
- Essay Must Submit to Blackboard
- Essays will not be accepted via email.
