A Christmas Carol and Other Works

For this essay, you will use A Christmas Carol as your base book. With that, you can use any other book that we read in this class up until this point. Think about some of the themes you wrote about this semester and write a cumulative essay on several of them. Below are examples of what I want when it comes to the essay:

Example #1: Look at character in A Christmas Carol. You can choose any character, but most will choose Scrooge. No matter who you choose, take a deep look at this character. Remember the lectures and the writings from “Recitatif” and character. Analyze Scrooge and also write how he compares/contrasts from some of the other main characters (protagonists/narrators) we have read so far this semester. Look at all the complexities such as growth, internal and external conflicts.

Example #2: Look at the author, Charles Dickens. How does his personal beliefs manifest in A Christmas Carol and compare that to other authors we have read this semester and how their personal beliefs/ethics influence their writings. Examples include: Toni Morrison and “Recitatif”, Ralph Ellison and “King of the Bingo Game”, Raymond Carver and “Cathedral”, etc.

Example #3: Look at the themes of A Christmas Carol – redemption, greed, social justice, etc. How do these compare to other works you have read so far?

Or you can come up with your own completely new way to compare elements of A Christmas Carol with other works we have read this semester.

Rules

Only use stories we read so far in this class; no other stories. This shows me you really analyzed our works and put them into good use for this assignment.
