Directions: Communities and schools shape people. They often define may of the ways in which people identify who they are and they often influence what people value. Expanding communities is a sociological framework for understanding how people are shaped by multiple communities expanding from a family community to the global community. In this reflection assignment, you will be writing a 300 - 350 word essay about how schools and communities have shaped you. Y
Your essay should be in narrative style (use complete sentences and indented paragraphs). Make sure you include your name at the top of the paper and a title for the essay. Your essay should be formatted in the following way: double spaced with 1 inch margins all around. Please use Arial 11pt font or Times New Roman 12 pt font. Make sure to use spell check and make sure your essay is grammatically correct.
Here are the question prompts to discuss in your reflective essay:
- First, type your name at the TOP of the PAPER, add a title, and explain how you define the word community and identify features of a community that are most important to you.
- Second, from what you have learned in this course, reflect and discuss on what you believe to be the two most important roles of schools in a community. Explain why.
- Third, see the figure below. It is an example of an Expanding Communities framework. Remember that Expanding Communities is framework that shows how an individual's identity is shaped and situated in multiple layers of community including everything from a family community to the global community.
- Finally, study the Expanding Communities framework, and then in your essay, identify and explain the two levels of the community that have had the greatest impact on your identity and explain why.
