The Topical Essay. The purpose of this assignment is to outline, analyze and defend a thesis about the key philosophical issue or theory examined in a primary source philosophy article from a book found and approved in my office (not on religion or abortion) about relating the content of the article to a philosophical topic covered in the assigned readings and class discussion earlier in the course. Think Iran Man, Batman, Terminator, House, etc. and Philosophy as examples. The primary source can be found no later than one week prior to the essay’s due date. This is a full 5 page paper, students will synthesize the material covered and defend your final tested and considered thesis about your original topic. These papers should begin with solid objective exegesis and defend a theses with sound arguments; remember that the purpose of the assignment is to demonstrate your mastery of course material by integrating relevancies, objections, etc. that pertain to your topic and thesis.
