Audre Lorde expresses her commitment to giving voice to what she has in the past kept silent. I will take her own words and ask you to reflect on and consider answering her questions for yourself: Are there experiences you have had for which you have not yet spoken (do not yet have) the words? You don't have to share them here, but if you want to, take this opportunity. What are you holding in that you need to say. "What are the tyrannies you swallow day by day and attempt to make your own, until you will sicken and die of them, still in silence?β (The Cancer Journals 19). If you don't want to approach this from a personal perspective, write about it from someone else's... a friend's, a sibling's, a grandparent's a patient's, a child's... Feel free to approach this in a creative way, and imagine what it is like living identity or self in silence and the impact this has on a person's well-being.
